The dates when an afternoon fills up early
A handful of dates fill the city and the roster at once, and on those days half the figure travels first even on a booking that would not otherwise ask.
Five stretches of the year are treated as peak dates: King's Day, Pride, the Amsterdam Dance Event, the run from Christmas into the new year, and any week when a large conference fills the centre. The house names them plainly if you ask which one applies to your dates, and the list is not quietly extended.
What changes and what does not
The figure does not change. There is no peak surcharge in this network and an hour on King's Day costs EUR 180 exactly as it does on a wet Tuesday in February. What changes is the deposit: half travels first on every booking made for a peak date, including a same-day hour from a guest the house already knows, which would otherwise be settled entirely at the door.
Why the afternoon is the rung to ask for
On a peak date the evening goes first and it goes early. The middle of the day is the part of the diary still open a week out, sometimes still open the day before, and on a day when the centre is impassable after six it is also the part of the day when a therapist can actually reach a door inside the usual window. Guests who plan around the evening on those dates tend to end up with nothing; guests who plan around two in the afternoon tend to get the name they wanted.
Arrival on a crowded day
Forty to sixty minutes still holds for the central districts, but a peak date is the one case where the far end of that window is the realistic one. On King's Day in particular, canals and bridges do things to a journey that no timetable accounts for. Give the room number early, and read the arrival window entry before you plan the hour tightly.
